VOTE JOHN PICKFORD
Hello Folks. Thanks for visiting.
I've lived and paid taxes in the community for 33 years; I'm a father and grandfather.
I am interested in- preserving the livability of the city: managing housing density, traffic , air quality, - taxation fairness for residential taxpayers - who pay ever increasing tax bills - contrary to constant refrain of "no tax increase" from city hall.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to provide a balance to city council, if the voters honour me with their support - bring some fresh ideas to Council regarding preserving a livable community, taxation relief and transparency at City hall.
As an indication of my motivation to seek election, I pledge to donate to local charities my council remuneration for the first year of my term.
Now the voters have an opportunity to get a fresh perspective and viewpoint on council.
I believe a certain amount of green space is vital to a livable community. Unlike candidate Flaspohler, I disagree with putting housing on city parks (her Chamber interview 4:00 minute mark).
Once parkland is paved over it's gone forever. Even unimproved parkland is a comfort to residents and their children.
My governance experience includes:
-B.C. Ministry of Human Resources Appeal Tribunal
-Court of Revision, adjudicating property assessment appeals
-Parks and Recreation Committee, Williams Lake
-Census commissioner, Statistics Canada, managing census in W.L.
-B.C. Employment Assistance Appeal Tribunal
The following accomplishments indicate my determination:
-20 consecutive Tour de Cariboo bicycle races, supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters W.L.
- Three circuits of Bowron Lake canoe circuit.
- Eighteen half-marathons in Williams Lake
- Two completions of 800 km. walk on Camino de Santiago, Spain.
